Great post on the intricacies of unemployment insurance. Fortunately, I've jumped through few hoops, so I'm sure I must be doing something wrong.

For me, the bottom line is that unemployment rules and regulations do not reflect the job search realities of today. In my opinion, their preferred method of seeking a job, which is filling out 3 applications a week, is most often worthless. You may find a needle in a haystack, but the odds aren't good. A much better job search strategy is found working with recruiters and networking. But you can't report that on your weekly form so you are left to spend time submitting applications that are likely to yield very little, just to satisfy outdated regulations.

Given the realities of today's job market, there must be a better way for job seekers to interact with the unemployment insurance bureaucracy. Maybe I'll think of something!
